Black Sky Radio

80’s with Ian

Ian gig

Who?

Ian!

That’s Who. Ian is that guy you work with who can be trusted to know the name of any silly song you may have heard but can’t identify. He can also tell you who produced, played on, starred in the video for and slept with the singer of…that song.

Yeah, it is an annoying habit, but it makes me happy.

I started as a DJ at a Skating rink in the mid to late 80’s, moved to clubs, and then to (cough cough) old style terrestrial radio. When that became a dead issue, I moved on to corporate life. I also play guitar in several bands on the weekends when I can. I love music. When the opportunity came along for me to get back into broadcasting, on terms that I could live with, with people that I can work for and with, I said HELL YES.

Why the 80s? Well… That is when I grew up. I was a pre-teen when MTV launched, and I watched it everyday after school for most of my middle school and high school years. It wasn’t until I started working in Radio later on in life that I realized that I retained what I saw, and actually learned something (take that Mom and Dad..MTV as a learning tool.) I am fascinated by what MTV did…first FOR music and musicians, and then TOO music and musicians.

It saddens me that the two things that influenced me the most (terrestrial radio and MTV) are both dead issues. Well three things. Skating Rinks are dead as well, but I digress.

My goal with BlackSkyRadio and the “80’s with Ian” is simply to put the focus on the music. The music that made the otherwise really bizarre decade known as the 80’s worth remembering. There are so many bands and there is so much good music that came from that decade that has been overlooked, forgotten or sampled and made into crappy rap songs, and I hope to shine a light on all of it.

Thanks for joining me. Let’s All Skate. PS.. The picture of me is me, with my band (Three of a Kind)
I am directing the crowd to sing along to Jenny Jenny (867-5309), by Tommy Tutone. a staple song for me.
SING!!!!
